The Groovy DVD Page:

I love movies (like most of you out there).

I've been known to buy DVD's just for the behind-the-scenes special features.

These pages are essentially a list of my favorite movies.

I will provide a brief review with each selection (as time goes by).

Let me know, and I will add your review and recommendations to the list.

Thank you, and I hope you enjoy the show.

Alien vs Predator

When I first saw the trailer for this one I groaned. As it turns out though, it is one of my favorite Alien movies. Better than any other sequal to Alien in the saga (except Aliens).

Back to the Future

'Doc Brown' is one of Christopher Lloyd's greatest characters. I remember having to wait a couple of yearsfor the sequals to finally come out. It was one of the 1st times that the 2nd and 3rd installments of a movie trilogy were filmed back to back. So, at least I didn't have to wait 4 years for the 3rd movie. They are fun and exciting, and they make you think about science, so these films are great for children.

Alien

This one, maybe not so good for children. This one scared the &*%# out of everyone when it came out. It's clautraphobic. It's intense. It's awesome.

And remember - In Space, No One Can Hear You Scream.

Aliens

This is one of the best sequals ever made. Some say it is better than Alien. You decide.

In the hands of James Cameron, this film took battling aliens to a new level. Send in the Space Marines and hope for the best. "Game over, man!"

Adventures of Robin Hood

I remember when this movie was on the Family Classics Sunday Movie about once a year when I was a kid. We had a black and white TV, so I didn't see the color version until the late 1970's. The color makes it even better. Errol Flynn was the best Robin Hood.

The Big Sleep

Bogart and Bacall. They say the plot makes no sense, but I admit I never noticed. After some analysis, they may have a point, but that is a minor issue with such a sure-handed film. It's a classic.

All About Eve

It is scary how accurate this film is regarding the designs and machinations of those seeking power and success at all costs.  The ending is devastatingly perfect.

Casablanca

It's worth it to pick up this film just for Roger Eberts commentary. Regardless of how you may feel about Ebert, the commentary is a must for any film buffs. It is a film class in itself.

"Play it, Sam."

Chinatown

More essential viewing for hose who love movies. There is nothing old fashioned about this tale. Mystery, plot twists, murder, conspiracy, secrets, corruption, foreshadowing, this film covers a lot of groud in an excellent way.

"She's my sister, and...."

Citizen Kane

It is considered by many to be the best film ever made. It is hard to argue, especially after you listen to Roger Ebert's commentary track. If you are a film buff, this is a must see. Having all of the details regarding the making-of, and all of the innovative film techniques that were developed in this film for the first time, is very cool. Plus, it is an excellent study of an individual.

Blade Runner

Do Androids dream of electric sheep? You bet they do. Futuristic film noir done to a T. The towering facades, the flying cars, the misty streets, and the Nexus Pleasure Replicant. This film sets the standard for all groovy sci-fi flicks.

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain."

The Day the Earth Stood Still

Billy Wilder, the great Director, has a lot to say about this movie in the commentary. Who can forget Gort? "Klaatu barada nikto" Translation: 'Gort, lighten-up already!'

Dr. Strangelove

This should be required viewing for all world leaders. The film exposes their pettiness by making them all absurd. Petter Sellers plays three roles.

"There's no fighting in the War Room, gentlemen"
