If you find that you spend a lot of time in from of the TV, please check out Network. It will make you think twice about what your watching. Everything about television is currupt. They want us to buy stuff, no matter how noble (or ignoble) they seem to be. "But first, you've gotta get mad!... You've got to say, 'I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!' Then we'll figure out what to do about the depression and the inflation and the oil crisis. But first get up out of your chairs, open the window, stick your head out, and yell, and say it: 'I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!' |

Here is another one of those movies that has everything that I like about movies. Humor, adventure, love sotry sub-plot, tall ships, pirates, escapes, supernatural phenomenon’s, and sequels in the works. "No survivors? Then where do the stories come from, I wonder?" |

Not for the Kids. This one has some crazy %&*@ in it. You may choose to avert your eys from time to time. Here's the plot line: The lives of two mob hit men, a boxer, a gangster's wife, and a pair of diner bandits intertwine in four tales of violence and redemption. "Get it straight, gentlemen: I'm not here to say please, I'm here to tell you what to do. And if self-preservation is an instinct that you possess, you'd better do it and do it quick. If my help's not appreciated, lots of luck, gentlemen." |

| The Princess Bride More Dredded Pirates. Not to mention the fire swamp, giants, revenge and yes - a love story. This film can be watched over and over by adults and children alike. "As you wish." |
| Raiders of the Lost Ark All of my friends turned into Indiana Jones the second they left the theater. That was the kind of adventure we had been waiting for. Jungles, guns, treasures, deserts, planes, subs and even the Ark of the Covenant. This movie has it all. It too utilized many of the story ideas that Joseph Campbell shared with George Lucas at the Lucasfilm Ranch, way back when. If you haven't seen this movie, grab some popcorn, turn down the lights, crank the volume, and get ready to enjoy one of the great roller-coaster blockbusters of all time. |
| Ronin Robert De Niro is pretty tricking in this european caper. Who's who and what's what? This movie has one of the best car chases of all time, and did I mention Robert De Niro? "If it's gonna be a amateur night, I want a hundred thousand dollars. I want it upfront. I want it in a bank account. I want another $100,000 when you get the case." |
| Remo Williams I like this movie for the training scenes between the Kung Fu Master (Joel Grey) and the reluctant recruit. Very funny. "All I can promise you is terror for breakfast, pressure for lunch, and aggravation for sleep. Your vacations will be two minutes when you're not looking over your shoulder, and if you live to draw a pension, it'll be a miracle." |
| Rear Window Alfred Hitchcock manages to make a great movie from inside a single room. You are trapped along with Grace kelly and Jimmie Stewert. here is Hitchcocks secret. Character looks at something / show something / show character reaction That's it fillm students. It's simple. "Because everything this fellow's done has been suspicious: trips at night in the rain, knifes, saws, trunks with rope, and now this wife that isn't there anymore." |
| Silverado Lawrence kasden (wrote Raiders of the Lost Ark) really knows how to make a film. This is a great western saga, with humor and action. Kevin Kline is Paden who is found stripped of everything, left in the desert to die. All he wants to do is to get his hourse, saddle, gun and hat back. "Hide and watch." |
| The Sixth Sense The great thing about this spooky movie is that it is two movies in one. the second one is better than the first. "You ever feel the prickly things on the back of your neck?" |
| Sleuth Great acting in this who-dun-it. Lawrence Olivier and Michael Cane star in this macabre thriller. It will keep you guessing the who time, have no doubt. "Why don't I just keep tapping you lightly on the head with the poker until a lump comes up?" |
| Stripes Besides Ghostbusters, Animal House and Ghostbusters Two, ,this is my favorite Bill Murry flick. Great for a date. What happens when two hapless guys decide to join the Army? High jinks and international incidents for starters, Sir! "An army without leaders is like a foot without a big toe. And Sergeant Hulka is always gonna be here to be that big toe for us. I think that we owe a big round of applause to our newest, bestest buddy, and big toe... Sergeant Hulka." |
| Star Trek Collection What can I say? I grew up in the '60's, Man, and Star Trek was always cool. "I know Spock, Mr. Data, and you're no Spock" |
| Star Wars I remember standing in line for the first showing of Star Wars. Everybody was there. It was like waiting to see the Rolling Stones at a Sports Stadium. We were all blown away by the special effects and story. If you would like to learn more about the symbolizism of Star Wars, you might want to check out the The Power of Myth |
| The Thing (1982) This is a scary movie. The Alien that they dig out of the ice 'infects' them - takes over, and you can't tell who the alien is because he looks just like Fred. Is it Fred, or is it the Alien? Aghhhhh...I don't know! "I dunno what the hell's in there, but it's weird and pissed off, whatever it is." |
| The Terminator Series The Governator, Arnold is terriffic as the cyborg from the future. The Terminator is programmed to kill Sara and John Connor - or is he? "Defense network computers. New... powerful... hooked into everything, trusted to run it all. They say it got smart, a new order of intelligence. Then it saw all people as a threat, not just the ones on the other side. Decided our fate in a microsecond: extermination." |
| The Thin Man On the lighter side. The Thin Man series are a bunch of sophisticated mystery comedies. Very suave and debonair. Based on the amount of martini's they consume, it's a wonder they can even think at all. "The important thing is the rhythm. Always have rhythm in your shaking. Now a Manhattan you always shake to fox-trot time, a Bronx to two-step time, a dry martini you always shake to waltz time." |
| Total Recall Arnold again. This is a wacky sci-fi flick, based on a novel by a man named Dick, it deals with perceptions and makes us wonder if what we saw was a dream or reality. "It won't make the slightest difference to me Doug, but the consequences to you will be devastating. In your mind I'll be dead, and with no one to guide you out, you'll be stuck in permanent psychosis. The walls of reality will come crashing down. One minute, you're the savior of the Rebel cause, next thing you know you'll be Cohaagen's bosom buddy. You'll even have fantasies about alien civilizations as you requested, but in the end, back on Earth you'll be lobotomized! So get a grip on yourself Doug, and put down that gun!" |
| Thomas Crown Affair (1999) Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo get tangled up in this caper movie. Thomas Crown is so rich and bored he steals priceless paintings for fun. It's a great way to meet chicks. "You really think there's "happy ever after" for people like us?" |
| The Time Machine (1960) I am pretty sure this could actually happen (if it hasn't already). This is a cautionary tale of the extremes that mankind might someday fall into. "What have you done? Thousands of years of building and rebuilding, creating and recreating so you can let it crumble to dust. A million years of sensitive men dying for their dreams... FOR WHAT? So you can swim and dance and play." |
| Sunset Boulevard I think that this is one of only a few story's narrated by a dead guy. And this is the one where the lady says she's ready for her close-up, Mr. Demille, but that's not the quote I picked. "Audiences don't know somebody sits down and writes a picture; they think the actors make it up as they go along." |
| Sullivan's Travels Big movie director dressess up like bum and hits the road to find out what the common man (and woman) want in their films. He finds out the hard way, which is fun for the rest of us. "I want this picture to be a... document. I want to hold a mirror up to life. I want this to be a picture of dignity... a true canvas of the suffering of humanity...but with a little sex in it." |
| The Usual Suspects Five villains in New York are rounded up by police in an unconventional manner that worries them. After release, they get together for a spot of revenge, but someone else is controling events. "Old McDonald had a farm ee i ee i o. And on that farm he shot some guys. Badda boom badda bing bang boom." |
| Witness for the Prosecution The trailer for this film asks the audiance to 'keep the secrect of the surprise ending', so I won't ruin it for you here. This is a classic British drama staring Marlene Dietrich. "Those aren't my letters." |
| The Wizard of OZ We only had black and white televisions when I was growing up, so I didn't know that when they got to Oz everything was in color. I even lost a bet once. Anyway, everything is really groovy with this one. "And never will again, I fancy. There's only one of him and he's it. He's the Horse of a Different Color, you've heard tell about." |
| Young Frankenstein Mel Brooks' very funny spoof of monster films. Gene Wilder is fantastic as Dr. Frankenstien. "What knockers." |
